Rebate Calculator

What it does

Utilities often pay a cash rebate when you replace old inefficient lighting with efficient LEDs, usually based on the watts you save. This estimates the watts and energy you would save by swapping an old system for a new one, the rebate that might be worth, and how quickly the whole project pays back.

When to use it

When planning a lighting retrofit and you want to size the incentive and payback before committing. Crop-agnostic. The rebate amount depends entirely on your local utility program, so enter your program's actual rebate rate ($/W) — the default is a placeholder.

How it calculates

• Payback, ROI and 5-year savings depend on the Equipment Cost ($/W) you enter — set it to your actual project cost.

What you enter

Old System Watts(W)

New System Watts(W)

Number of Fixtures

Annual Run Hours(hrs)

Electricity Rate($/kWh)

Rebate per Watt Saved($/W)

Equipment Cost($/W)

What you get

Total Watts Saved(W)

Reading the result

Total Watts Saved and Annual kWh Saved come straight from the old-vs-new wattage and your run hours. Estimated Rebate is watts saved times the rebate rate you entered — verify it against your utility's published program, since real rebates often have caps and pre-approval steps. Payback Period (months) and ROI depend on the Equipment Cost ($/W) input, so set that to your real quoted cost or the payback is meaningless. A short payback plus a solid rebate is the green light; a 999-month payback means your inputs give no saving.
